DAR ES SALAAM – In a strategic move to cement its position as a leader in African horticulture, Tanzania officially launched the “Horti Logistica Africa” council on November 12, 2025. The announcement was made by Dr. Jim Yonazi, the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, and Coordination), during the landmark Horticulture Business and Investment Summit (HoBIS) held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dar es Salaam.
This new, high-profile platform is set to convene annually in Tanzania every November. Its mission is to bring together global and African stakeholders from the horticulture industry, creating a dedicated forum to “learn about the challenges, successes, and opportunities” that span the entire value chain, from farm to market.
Dr. Yonazi, who attended as the official Guest of Honor representing Chief Secretary Ambassador Dr. Moses Kusiluka, praised both the Ministry of Agriculture and the Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA) for their “implementation of the vision and direction of the agricultural sector.”
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to its public-private partnership model, stating that the “Government will continue to partner with the Private Sector to improve infrastructure for storage, transport, and markets.” He stressed that this collaboration is key to fostering a horticultural sector that provides “jobs for youth and women, in building an inclusive economy” in the country.
The launch is supported by powerful evidence of the sector’s explosive growth. Citing data from TAHA, Dr. Yonazi noted that by 2024, horticulture export revenues had reached 569 million US dollars. This figure represents a “great success” for the nation, marking a near-doubling from the 290.7 million US dollars recorded in 2020.
In addition to launching the new logistics-focused council, Dr. Yonazi concluded with a second key directive. He tasked TAHA, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, to formalise the Horticulture Business and Investment Summit (HoBIS) as a fixed annual event. He mandated that the summit “be held every August 1st of the year,” aligning it with the Nane Nane International Exhibitions to “reach farmers at all levels” and create a consistent forum for solving industry challenges.
