President Samia wants livestock sector transformation.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan has expressed her desire to see a transformation of Tanzania’s livestock sector. The Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, announced this in a press briefing today, stating that the president is keen on developing the sector to boost Tanzania’s economy.
The President has instructed the relevant ministries and agencies to collaborate to formulate a comprehensive plan for transforming the livestock sector. The plan will include initiatives to improve livestock health, breeding, and marketing and provide better access to credit and other financial services for farmers and herders.
According to the Prime Minister, the transformation of the livestock sector will not only help to boost the economy but will also create employment opportunities and contribute to poverty reduction in Tanzania. He urged all stakeholders to support the government’s efforts to transform the sector and to work together to ensure its success.
Tanzania’s livestock sector is an important contributor to the country’s economy, accounting for 7.4% of GDP in 2022. The sector is also a major source of employment, with more than 3 million people engaged in livestock production and related activities.
