Tea Producers in Tanzania Get a Boost: Training Sessions Equip Farmers for Global Success

Korogwe, Tanzania : In a move designed to strengthen Tanzania’s tea industry, a specialized training session was held on March 22, 2024 at the Sakare Specialty Tea factory in Korogwe District. The session, which brought together members from the Sakare & Zema Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies (AMCOS), focused on equipping farmers with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in the competitive global market.

This training is part of a wider initiative led by the Tea Board of Tanzania. The program aims to empower tea producers across the nation with expertise in tea investments and operational financing mechanisms. The collaborative effort involved the Tea Board, the Tanzania Cooperatives Development Commission, NMB Bank, and CRDB Bank. This partnership highlights the commitment of both public and private sectors to elevate the Tanzanian tea industry through innovation and modernized practices.

Similar training was provided to 12 leaders of Bumbuli District AMCOS on tea investments and operational financing mechanisms held at Mponde Tea factory on March 22nd, 2024. This session also involved collaboration between the Tea Board of Tanzania, Tanzania Cooperatives Development Commission, NMB Bank, and CRDB Bank.

The training at the Sakare factory provided participants with valuable insights into effective investment strategies and new financing options. These tools are crucial for minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency in tea production. The participation of NMB and CRDB Banks offered a practical perspective on accessing financial products specifically tailored to the tea sector’s unique needs.

On Tuesday, March 20th, 2024, another Revolving Fund training session took place at the Umoja wa Wakulima wa Chai (UWACHA) office in Bulwa village, Muheza District. This training was attended by tea farmers from various cooperatives under UWACHA.

As the Tea Board of Tanzania rolls out its comprehensive training program across various regions, events like the one held at the Sakare factory represent significant steps towards a sustainable and prosperous future for Tanzanian tea. By fostering collaboration and focusing on financial and operational excellence, the initiative aims to position Tanzanian tea as a premium product on the world stage, benefiting both producers and the national economy as a whole.
