Tanzanian Soil Scientists to Convene for Key Strategic Meeting

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Soil scientists from across Tanzania are invited to a crucial virtual meeting on Monday, September 22, 2025, to discuss the future of the discipline in the country and strengthen collaboration within the field. The meeting, scheduled from 2:45 PM to 4:00 PM EAT, will be held via Google Meet.

The online gathering aims to bring together experts to strategize on several key initiatives, including participation in the upcoming Soil Science Society of East Africa (SSSEA) conference in Moshi. A significant focus of the meeting will be the proposed election of leaders for the SSSEA-Tanzania Chapter, a move intended to revitalize the national body.

According to the organizers, the discussion will also explore avenues for joint project proposals, the creation of a comprehensive database for all soil science and agronomy researchers in the country, and the revival of the “soil commodity” group to foster a more unified community.

Key agenda items include:

  • SSSEA Conference: Deliberations on participation in the upcoming regional conference.
  • Leadership Selection: Proposals for the election of new leaders for the SSSEA-Tanzania Chapter.
  • Collaborative Research: Strategies for jointly writing and securing soil-related projects.
  • Coordination and Communication: Establishing a system to share information on ongoing soil projects to avoid duplication and enhance synergy.
  • World Soil Day: Planning and participation in the World Soil Day celebrations on December 5, 2025.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Improving partnerships with national and international stakeholders in the soil science sector.
  • Enhanced Communication: Fostering regular communication through meetings and digital platforms to share opportunities and address challenges, aiming to build a competitive and collaborative soil science unit.

The meeting will be opened by the Manager of the Natural Resources Management and Environment (NRMAE) division of the Dares salaam Research Institute (DRI). All soil scientists are encouraged to attend and to share this invitation with their colleagues.
