Tanzania’s soybean sector has crossed a historic milestone with the official 2025 release of SANGE SOYA 01, a new locally bred soybean variety developed by Sange Agro-Seed Company Ltd under the leadership of Dr. Ambonesigwe Mbwaga. Emerging from a rigorous three-year selection process of more than 20,000 IITA genetic materials, SANGE SOYA 01 delivers exceptional performance — high yields approaching 3 t/ha, 35.9% protein content, and a large seed size that farmers strongly prefer.
This variety stands out not only for its resilience in erratic rainfall seasons but also for its direct alignment with smallholder farming systems, including intercropping. Its release marks a major step forward in strengthening Tanzania’s soybean value chain and reducing dependency on imported feed ingredients.
