USAID’s Capacity Building in Agriculture Initiative Drives Transformation of Tanzania’s Agricultural Sector
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – June 27, 2024 – Since its launch in 2015, USAID’s Capacity Building in Agriculture initiative has been instrumental in revolutionizing Tanzania’s agricultural landscape. By focusing on knowledge sharing, data collection, and information dissemination, the $31.9 million initiative has empowered key government actors and producers to drive economic growth and implement climate-smart agricultural practices.
Recognizing the vital role of agriculture in Tanzania’s economy, the initiative provides comprehensive technical assistance to bridge the gap between science, policy, and implementation. This includes:
- Strengthening Policy Environment: Fostering sustainable agricultural practices and promoting climate-smart technologies.
- Empowering Rural Communities: Ensuring inclusive participation in decision-making processes, especially for women and youth.
- Improving Productivity: Facilitating the adoption of modern agricultural practices and technologies.
- Enhancing Data Collection and Information Sharing: Building a knowledge base for informed decision-making.
The initiative’s impact is evident in the increased productivity and adoption of improved agricultural practices among Tanzanian farmers. USAID’s Capacity Building in Agriculture initiative in 2023 and beyond remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting Tanzania’s journey towards self-reliance and a thriving agricultural sector that can withstand the challenges of climate change.
