TARI Urged to Accelerate Agricultural Research Efforts
On February 24, 2024, the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) was directed to expedite its research activities to meet the needs of farmers, thereby enhancing productivity across the entire agricultural sector.
This call was made on February 23, 2024, by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Hon. David Silinde (MP), during his visit to the TARI Ilonga Research Station located in Kilosa District, Morogoro Region.
Hon. Silinde highlighted the need for the availability of superior agricultural seeds that are climate change resilient and disease-resistant, urging researchers to intensify their efforts in research and the distribution of agricultural technologies.
Dr. Thomas Bwana, the Director General of TARI, stated that the institute is committed to researching and distributing agricultural technologies that meet the requirements while continuing to invest in training experts to address various agricultural challenges in the country.
Dr. Bwana mentioned that TARI possesses modern infrastructure, including laboratories and farms for research in various locations, and emphasized the ongoing efforts to improve this infrastructure to keep pace with technological advancements.
Dr. Emmanuel Chilagane, the Director of TARI Ilonga, encouraged farmers to continue utilizing the technologies developed by TARI that adapt to climate change, aiming to increase individual and national income.
Salome Mkinga, the District Administrative Secretary of Kilosa, applauded TARI, noting that the TARI Ilonga Station has significantly increased productive output in various crops thriving in the region.
