President Dr. Samia Praises Innovative BBT – LIFE Program in Livestock and Fisheries Ministry
Mbeya TANZANIA — President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has lauded the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries for its exceptional implementation of the Flagship Program “Build a Better Tomorrow” (BBT – LIFE). She emphasized the importance of this initiative for the youth involved, urging them to seize this significant opportunity.
The commendation came during her visit to the Ministry’s pavilions at the John Mwakangale grounds in Mbeya, as part of the closing events of the International Farmers Exhibition (Nanenane) on August 8, 2023.
President Samia expressed her delight in witnessing how the Ministry, under the leadership of the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Abdallah Ulega (Member of Parliament), along with its officials, effectively manages the BBT – LIFE program. This includes practical training for youth in livestock fattening, crab and sea cucumber farming, as well as seaweed cultivation.
Highlighting the international demand for meat, President Samia noted that the youth trained in cattle fattening under the BBT – LIFE program should leverage this opportunity to increase production and tap into the global market, eventually leading to meat processing and export.
Focusing on the Fisheries sector of BBT – LIFE, President Samia urged young participants to fully utilize the opportunities in aquaculture towards a blue economy, emphasizing increased production of aquatic organisms, including fish.
She mentioned her ongoing efforts to secure funding for various programs, including fish farming, to enable youth to explore these opportunities for income enhancement, urging them to make the most of them.
Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Abdallah Ulega, briefed President Samia on the Ministry’s commitment to expanding the BBT – LIFE program nationwide, enabling more youth to benefit. The Ministry aims to increase production in the livestock and fisheries sectors, boosting individual and national income.
Youth beneficiaries of the BBT – LIFE program expressed their gratitude to President Samia for initiating a program that significantly enhances their skills and income potential.
The International Farmers Exhibition (Nanenane) has been held at the John Mwakangale grounds in Mbeya since August 1 this year, showcasing various agricultural advancements and opportunities.
