Uchama Ward Villagers Assured of Steady Development as Government Pledges More Support
The villages of Undomo and Mbogwe in Uchama Ward, Nzega District, have been promised a new Agricultural Equipment Center and five tractors to boost farming activities in the area. Uchama Ward comprises 59 villages and 356 hamlets.
These commitments were made by the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Hussein Bashe (MP), during his visit to Nzega District on September 16, 2024. “We have built secondary schools in every ward, established health centers, improved roads, and expanded extension services. I encourage you to remain optimistic, as we have come a long way, and we will continue to enhance services and bring more development,” Minister Bashe stated.
He also directed the Agricultural Seed Agency (ASA) to distribute 20 bags of maize to ensure that primary school children in the area receive porridge. Regarding ASA seeds, he urged farmers to adopt these seeds and provide reports on the impact next season, especially from those who used the tractors and ASA’s improved seeds to assess the resulting yield increase.
Minister Bashe further highlighted the T-115 maize seed variety, which produces two ears of corn per stalk, as the seed farmers would be purchasing from ASA for the upcoming season.
In a separate event, the Minister contributed TZS 10 million to initiate the construction of a maternity ward. He called upon the District Council to assist in completing the project to ensure mothers have a proper facility for childbirth.
Touching on cotton farming, Minister Bashe encouraged farmers to allocate part of their land for cotton cultivation, assuring them that they would receive free seeds and pesticides. He also mentioned plans to construct a seed processing factory to bring services closer to the farmers, improving overall productivity.
