Tunsime Kyando Appointed as Farm Africa’s New Country Director in Tanzania
By Juma Msafiri
Farm Africa is pleased to announce the appointment of Tunsime Kyando as the new Country Director for Tanzania. Tunsime brings with her a wealth of experience, having worked in the field of international development for over 14 years. Her background as a Tanzanian development economist uniquely positions her to lead Farm Africa’s regional initiatives.
In her first statement as Country Director, Tunsime expressed her deep commitment to sustainable development, emphasizing the need to transcend traditional methods of poverty eradication. She highlighted the critical connection between meeting socio-economic needs and fostering environmental conservation.
“I am deeply committed to sustainable development, recognising that achieving true sustainability requires going beyond traditional approaches to poverty eradication,” Tunsime said. “As a woman born and raised in Africa, I understand that it’s unrealistic to expect people to prioritise environmental protection when they are struggling to meet their basic needs. By addressing the socio-economic needs of communities, we can create a foundation where environmental conservation becomes not just a responsibility but a viable and attractive option for everyone.”
Tunsime’s vision aligns perfectly with Farm Africa’s mission of creating a resilient rural Africa. The organization is focused on enabling both people and the environment to thrive through sustainable agricultural practices and strengthened markets. Her enthusiasm for the role is evident as she prepares to steer the team towards achieving these vital goals.
Farm Africa is excited to have Tunsime on board, and her leadership is expected to drive forward the organization’s important agenda of fostering sustainable development in Tanzania and beyond.
Tunsime is a highly experienced development economist with over 14 years of experience managing international development programs. In her new role, she will lead Farm Africa’s efforts to boost sustainable agriculture and natural resource management across Tanzania.
Tunsime’s background in the development sector and her commitment to sustainable practices align closely with Farm Africa’s mission of creating a resilient rural Africa where both people and the environment thrive. She emphasized the importance of addressing socio-economic needs to make environmental conservation a viable and attractive option for communities.
As Country Director, Tunsime will play a key role in expanding Farm Africa’s programs in Tanzania, working closely with stakeholders, including the private sector and institutional donors, to enhance the organization’s impact.
