Tanzania Secures 23,000 Tonnes of Urea Fertilizer to Boost Agricultural Output
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – June 25, 2025 – In a significant move to bolster agricultural productivity and support farmers nationwide, the Tanzania Fertilizer Company (TFC) today signed a crucial agreement with Dubai-based Sea Energy Group Company for the sale of 23,000 tonnes of Urea fertilizer.
The signing ceremony, held in Dar es Salaam, marks a pivotal step in the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the availability of essential agricultural inputs at subsidized prices.
Mr. Samuel Mshote, Director-General of TFC, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting Tanzanian farmers. He stated that TFC’s target for the 2024/25 financial year was to distribute 100,000 tonnes of subsidized fertilizer. To date, TFC has already distributed 31,500 tonnes of DAP planting fertilizer, 35,000 tonnes of Urea N46% growth fertilizer, and 59,127 tonnes of fertilizer specifically for tobacco cultivation.
Beyond imports, TFC is also actively investing in local production to reduce the cost of fertilizer acquisition. Mr. Mshote revealed that the company has begun importing and installing machinery for blending fertilizers tailored to specific soil types, a move expected to further optimize agricultural practices across the country.
The 23,000 tonnes of Urea N46% fertilizer, specifically designed for crop growth, will be sold to farmers at subsidized prices under the government’s established subsidy program. This vital input is slated for distribution to farmers nationwide, ensuring widespread access.
Mr. Dean Tavakoli, CEO and Chairman of Sea Energy Group Company, expressed his gratitude to the Tanzanian government, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture, for the opportunity to contribute to the nation’s agricultural development. He pledged to supply high-quality fertilizer at affordable prices to Tanzanian farmers, reinforcing the commitment to a sustainable and productive agricultural sector.
