A momentous event unfolded in Dodoma, Tanzania, as President Samia Suluhu Hassan presided over the inauguration of state-of-the-art mining equipment on October 21, 2023. The ceremony, held at the Jakaya Kikwete Hall, marked a significant step towards empowering small-scale miners and optimizing Tanzania’s mineral resources.
The distinguished gathering included Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Hon. Doto Biteko, Minister of Minerals Hon. Anthony Mavunde, Dodoma Regional Commissioner Hon. Rosemary Senyamule, Chairman of the Revolutionary Party (CCM) in Dodoma Region Mr. Adam Kimbisa, and representatives from the small-scale mining sector.
The highlight of the event was the official unveiling of advanced mining machinery aimed at bolstering the efficiency and productivity of small-scale miners across Tanzania. President Samia Suluhu Hassan, in her address, emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the mining industry, particularly small-scale miners who play a crucial role in the country’s economic development.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan urged small-scale miners to join cooperative societies, emphasizing the potential for enhanced benefits and sustainability through collective efforts. She stressed that Tanzania’s mineral resources should be a source of prosperity for all citizens.
Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Ms. Rosemary Senyamule, also expressed her gratitude to the government, specifically acknowledging President Samia Suluhu Hassan for appointing Mr. Antony Mavunde as the Minister of Minerals. Mavunde, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Dodoma, was hailed for his dual role, seen as a significant boost to the region’s mineral sector.
Ms. Senyamule addressed President Samia Suluhu Hassan directly, taking a moment to thank her for the crucial decision to appoint Mr. Antony Mavunde as the Minister of Minerals. She highlighted the significance of having a local representative holding this important portfolio, emphasizing that it would greatly benefit the Dodoma region and its residents.
Drawing on religious wisdom, Ms. Senyamule quoted scriptures that say, “When the righteous rule, even the insects rejoice.” She expressed her immense happiness and the widespread contentment of Dodoma’s residents since President Samia Suluhu Hassan assumed office, citing remarkable improvements in infrastructure, agriculture, and various sectors.
Ms. Senyamule highlighted Dodoma’s transformation from being associated with hunger to now being recognized as a hub for food production, mirroring President Samia’s vision for a self-sufficient Tanzania.
She further emphasized Dodoma’s emergence as a mineral-rich region, leading the nation in diverse minerals, including strategic minerals and precious gemstones. Notably, she mentioned the unique and exclusive presence of Rubies in Mpwapwa, a treasure found only in Dodoma.
The Regional Commissioner reaffirmed Dodoma’s commitment to support the President’s initiatives and attract both domestic and foreign investments in the mineral sector to unlock its full potential.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s dedication to enhancing Dodoma’s infrastructure, coupled with her support for the region’s mineral development, has brought about transformative changes that have left an indelible mark on Dodoma’s history.
In a touching gesture, the President handed over a group of women’s representatives the responsibility to manage the sale of charcoal made from coal, emphasizing her commitment to environmental conservation and the fight against gender-based violence.
Ms. Senyamule assured the President of Dodoma’s unwavering support in ensuring that her visionary projects continue to thrive, and the region remains a beacon of development and prosperity. Dodoma, echoing the sentiments of the entire United Republic of Tanzania, resounded with cheers of “Oyeee!” as they celebrated the momentous occasion.
Ms. Senyamule also expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Minerals and STAMIKO for choosing Dodoma as the location for this strategic meeting, commending their commitment to the development and management of the country’s mineral resources.
