Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam Takes Over Uganda Relations.
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – In a significant diplomatic shift, the Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam will now oversee Norway’s diplomatic relations with Uganda, alongside Rwanda, Burundi, and the Comoros. This change follows the closure of the Norwegian Embassy in Kampala, a move part of Norway’s broader structural reforms within its foreign service.
The transition was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations signed between Uganda and Norway. This agreement underscores the strong bilateral ties and commitment to continued collaboration between the two nations. The MoU aims to facilitate ongoing political dialogue, ensuring seamless diplomatic relations despite the absence of a resident Norwegian mission in Uganda.
Uganda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, and Norwegian Ambassador Kristin Hermansen expressed mutual appreciation for the longstanding partnership and Norway’s support in various sectors. The Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam will now manage relations with Uganda, with regular visits by the Norwegian Ambassador to engage with Ugandan officials and stakeholders. Additionally, efforts are underway to establish an Honorary Consulate in Kampala to provide necessary diplomatic and consular services.
This move highlights Uganda’s strategic importance in the region and reaffirms Norway’s commitment to maintaining robust bilateral relations, particularly in the business and energy sectors, where Norwegian nationals are actively involved.
