Norwegian Ambassador Highlights Tanzania’s Green Economy Potential at Wajibu Institute Workshop
Dodoma, Tanzania – October 26, 2024: Norwegian Ambassador to Tanzania, H.E. Tone Tinnes, underscored Tanzania’s unique opportunity to harness its mineral wealth for sustainable development at a climate workshop organized by the Wajibu Institute in collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy and REPOA. Speaking to stakeholders in Dodoma, Ambassador Tinnes highlighted that the global transition to a green economy is set to increase demand for critical minerals, urging Tanzania to take a strategic approach in utilizing its resources. “Tanzania can afford to take time discussing how to utilize these resources best,” she emphasized, advocating for partnerships with companies that prioritize responsible, sustainable exploration to maximize national income and support environmental goals.
The workshop addressed global, regional, and national climate challenges while preparing for the UN Climate Change Conference, COP29. Discussions focused on carbon reduction, nature conservation, and nations’ experiences at various levels of climate action.
Dr. Jane Mpapalika of REPOA spoke on mobilizing climate-adaptation finance to build resilience in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. “Increased climate vulnerability calls for robust finance mechanisms,” she noted, highlighting the urgent need for a comprehensive financing approach blending both local and international contributions to meet climate resilience targets.
