Nane Nane International Exhibition 2024: SAGCOT Showcases its Agricultural Impact
On August 3, 2024, at the Youth and Women’s Conference during the Nane Nane Exhibition, Tulalumba Mloge (Tula), the executive assistant to the SAGCOT CEO, highlighted the organization’s significant contributions to the development of agriculture in Tanzania. SAGCOT, a public-private partnership, has been at the forefront of advancing agriculture in the southern highlands and now plans to expand its reach across the country.
Progress in Value Chains:
SAGCOT has successfully engaged youth in various value chains, including potatoes, vegetables, fruits, and spices. Through collaboration with young farmers like Shamimu from Njombe, SAGCOT has significantly improved the production and processing of these crops.
From Boda Boda to Rice Farmers:
In Songwe Nkara, SAGCOT has transformed boda boda riders into successful rice farmers, demonstrating the organization’s ability to bring positive change to the lives of young people and the community as a whole.
Supporting Women Entrepreneurs:
SAGCOT has also been providing substantial support to women entrepreneurs. A notable example is Dodoma Cement, led by Theresia, which has become a key player in the soil health sector in the country.
Nane Nane Exhibition:
At the Nane Nane Exhibition, SAGCOT has two booths: the Avocado Pavilion and Tanzania Harvest, where it showcases various products produced in the country, including milk, coffee, and chocolate.
The Future of SAGCOT:
SAGCOT plans to expand beyond the southern highlands to become a national organization. Young people are seen as key stakeholders in spreading the message and successes of SAGCOT across the country.
Call to Youth:
Tula Mloge concluded by inviting young people to visit the SAGCOT booths at the Nane Nane Exhibition to learn more about the organization’s opportunities. She encouraged young people to become ambassadors of SAGCOT in their communities and to participate fully in driving an agricultural revolution in Tanzania.
