AGRA’s Board Chair, H.E. Hailemariam Dessalegn and President, Dr. Agnes Kalibata at COP27
Sharm El Sheikh, November 03, 2022 – AGRA’s Board Chair, H.E. Hailemariam Dessalegn and AGRA’s President, Dr. Agnes Kalibata, will be leading a delegation to the UN Climate Change Conference, COP27.
At COP27, AGRA will be advocating for the inclusion of food systems in climate change discussions to address the needs of smallholder farmers for adaptation and resilience when faced with climate change – the challenge of our time. AGRA will also be calling for increased investment in adaptation initiatives with focus on women, youth and digitization in climate change and food systems’ responses.
For the first time ever, there will be a Food Systems Pavilion at the UN Climate Change Conference, putting food at the centre stage during these crucial negotiations.
Among other engagements, H.E. Dessalegn will be a keynote speaker at the Food Systems Pavilion and Adaptation and Agriculture Day at the Africa Pavilion. Dr Kalibata is moderating the World Leaders Summit on Food Security in the Food and Nature Pavilion.
H.E. Dessalegn and Dr. Kalibata are available to comment on: impact of climate stresses on African agriculture, what needs to be done to build resilience, transform food systems and prevent irreversible damage from climate change.
