Editorial Policy

Last updated: 31 October 2026

Kilimo Kwanza reports on agriculture, food systems and agribusiness across Africa. This policy explains how we report and how we correct mistakes. Kilimo Kwanza is published by AppsValle Limited, Kenya.

1. Independence

Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team alone. Advertisers, sponsors, partners, funders and sources do not approve, review or change news content before publication. Paying for advertising or sponsorship does not buy coverage.

2. Accuracy and sourcing

  • Facts, figures and quotations are checked against a named source wherever possible.
  • We link to or name the original source for statistics and official data.
  • Prices, yields, costs and market figures in our guides and series are clearly presented as indicative estimates for planning, not guarantees.
  • Where we cannot verify a claim, we say so or leave it out.

3. Fairness and right of reply

We aim to report fairly and to give people and organisations that are criticised in our reporting a reasonable opportunity to respond. If you believe we have treated you unfairly, write to us and we will consider publishing your response.

4. Press releases, partner material and supplements

  • Material supplied by organisations, including press releases, is labelled as such and published under the supplying organisation’s name.
  • Special supplements are labelled “Special supplement produced in partnership with”, followed by the name of the organisation that funded or supplied them.
  • Sponsored and advertising content follows our Advertising and Sponsored Content Policy.
  • Publication of partner material does not mean that Kilimo Kwanza or AppsValle endorses the organisation, its products or its claims.

5. Authorship

Each article carries the name of its author or “Kilimo Kwanza Editorial Team”. Opinion and commentary are clearly labelled and represent the views of their authors, not necessarily those of Kilimo Kwanza or AppsValle.

6. Corrections and updates

  • If we get something wrong, we correct it promptly.
  • Significant corrections are noted at the foot of the article with the date of the correction and a short description of what changed.
  • Minor changes, such as spelling or formatting, may be made without a note.
  • When an article is updated with new information, it shows an “Updated” date.

We do not remove articles simply because someone dislikes them. We will remove or amend content where it is unlawful, seriously inaccurate, or puts someone at risk.

To report an error, write to kilimokwanza.africa@gmail.com with the subject “Correction”, the article’s address, what is wrong, and a source for the correct information.

7. Complaints

Write to kilimokwanza.africa@gmail.com with the subject “Complaint”. We will acknowledge your complaint and respond as soon as we reasonably can. If you are not satisfied with our response to a complaint about our journalism, you may refer it to the Media Council of Kenya.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page.
