Tanzania to Unveil “Made in Tanzania” National Brand at 49th DITF, Aiming to Supercharge Local Economy

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania – July 4, 2025 – Tanzania is set to take a major step toward strengthening its domestic industries and elevating the profile of homegrown products on the global stage. The Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), operating under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, will officially launch the “Made in Tanzania” National Brand for Goods and Services on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. The highly anticipated event will be held at the Rashid Mfaume Kawawa Dome within the Mwl. J.K. Nyerere Exhibition Grounds during the 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), starting at 9:30 AM.

The Made in Tanzania initiative has been developed to formally identify, promote, and protect goods and services produced within the country. By establishing a cohesive national brand, TanTrade aims to boost consumer confidence in Tanzanian products, drive local consumption, and create new opportunities for exporting to regional and international markets. The initiative is positioned as a critical milestone in the country’s journey toward sustainable industrialization, economic diversification, and inclusive prosperity.

According to TanTrade, the program will serve three primary objectives. It will formally introduce a national mark that distinguishes Tanzanian products and services from imports. It will encourage consumers and institutions to buy Tanzanian-made goods, stimulating employment, value addition, and innovation across the country’s supply chains. Finally, it will build broad-based awareness and rally stakeholders across sectors to actively support local production and accelerate economic transformation.

A diverse group of companies and industry associations has been invited to participate in the launch, reflecting the strategic importance of public-private collaboration in driving the initiative forward. Among the organizations expected to attend are the Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (AGCOT), GSM Tanzania Limited, Said Salim Bakhresa and Co. Ltd, Azania Group, Buckreef Gold Co Ltd, Total Energy, CRDB Bank, Vodacom Tanzania Limited, Afri Tea & Coffee Blenders (1963), Chai Bora, Goldstar Paints Tanzania (METL Group), and many others spanning agriculture, mining, energy, manufacturing, and financial services.

Latifa M. Khamis, Director General of TanTrade, emphasized that this launch represents a transformative moment for Tanzania’s business landscape. She noted that the Made in Tanzania brand is more than a label; it is a promise to citizens and entrepreneurs alike, symbolizing the resilience, innovation, and quality that define the country’s industrial ambitions.

The timing of this initiative underscores Tanzania’s commitment to reposition its economy beyond raw commodities and toward higher-value products and services. The launch aligns with the country’s Vision 2050 aspirations, which envision Tanzania as a modern, industrialized, and prosperous nation able to compete confidently in global markets.

As global consumers increasingly prioritize authenticity, sustainability, and traceability, Tanzania is positioning itself to unlock new frontiers of growth. The launch of the Made in Tanzania brand promises to create a distinctive identity for Tanzanian products, potentially making them preferred choices not only in local markets but on shelves across Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.
