In an effort to ensure the efficient cultivation of tea in Tanzania and its significant contribution to the national income, the Tanzania Tea Board launched the Kilolo Tea Company Board on October 9 in Iringa. The newly established board will oversee the development of the tea industry in the Kilolo District of Iringa.
Mary Kipeja, the CEO of the Tanzania Tea Board, spoke after the board’s inauguration, expressing that it would enhance the management of the tea sector in the district. She highlighted that Kilolo possesses vast tea estates that have been abandoned for over 30 years, and one of the board’s key responsibilities is to ensure the revival of these estates for production.
“Today, the tea sector has made history with the launch of this board, which is set to bring about positive changes in the tea industry nationwide. I assure you that the sector is on the verge of transformation, becoming one of the most productive industries for the national income,” stated Mary Kipeja.
Following the board’s inauguration, its members elected the Board Chairperson. Hon. Justine Nyamoga, the Member of Parliament for the Kilolo Constituency, was chosen as the Chairperson, with Lain Kamendu, the Director of the Kilolo District Council, appointed as Vice Chairperson.
The members of the Kilolo Tea Company Board include Hon. Justine Nyamoga (Chairperson), Vicent Gaifalo, Christina Mngongo, Wenceslaus Myanjamu, Kaisi Mwaisaka, Lain Kamendu (Vice Chairperson), and Michael Mwaisondola.
