USAID’s Advancing Nutrition Initiative Drives Significant Health Improvements in Tanzania
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – June 27, 2024 – USAID’s Advancing Nutrition initiative has achieved remarkable success in bolstering Tanzania’s nutritional status since its launch in October 2019. By strengthening the capacity of key government institutions to implement the National Multi-sectoral Nutrition Action Plan (NMNAP), the initiative has addressed the country’s growing malnutrition challenges amidst a rapidly expanding population.
Helen Keller International, the prime partner, has spearheaded two major achievements:
- Integration of Nutrition Across Sectors: Ensured nutrition is considered a priority across key ministries involved in the NMNAP, fostering a cohesive approach to combating malnutrition.
- Development of NMNAP II and Common Results Framework: Created a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable and effective nutrition strategies in the future.
The initiative’s $2.5 million investment has already yielded tangible results, including improved nutritional programs, enhanced practices among USAID’s implementing partners, and ultimately, better health outcomes for numerous communities across Tanzania.
As the Advancing Nutrition initiative continues its vital work through September 2023 and serves as a model for collaborative efforts and the critical importance of investing in nutrition to secure a healthier, more prosperous future for all Tanzanians.
