Minister Bashe Praises ASA’s Impressive Progress at Nzega Seed Farm
Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Hussein Bashe (MP), expressed his satisfaction with the impressive work being carried out by the Agricultural Seed Agency (ASA) during his inspection visit to the Undomo seed farm in Nzega District on September 16, 2024. Spanning 802.47 hectares, the farm currently uses 602 hectares for seed production, with four pivot irrigation machines ensuring efficient water management.
In line with the government’s strategy to strengthen public-private partnerships, ASA’s Acting Director, Mr. Leo Mavika, shared that the agency has allocated 11,160 hectares nationwide for seed cultivation out of its total 13,000 hectares. He emphasized ASA’s focus on efficient farm management to ensure that inputs, including fertilizers, are provided on time for the upcoming growing seasons.
ASA also plans to expand the infrastructure at the Undomo farm by constructing a seed processing and drying facility, building four staff houses, and establishing a dedicated office space to enhance operations.
Minister Bashe expressed his approval of the progress at the farm and directed ASA to purchase three additional pivot irrigation systems to meet the irrigation needs of 220 hectares, beyond the current 145 hectares covered by the existing machines.
“I also recommend a thorough audit of the land usage at the farm to ensure accurate data collection, which will enhance operational efficiency. Furthermore, I direct that 120 hectares be cleared by a contractor, ensuring the entire farm can be fully utilized for increased seed production,” Minister Bashe stated.
The visit to Nzega was part of Minister Bashe’s official tour, which began on September 11, 2024, and has included stops in Shinyanga and Simiyu regions.
